When astronomers measured the sun carefully, they found, contrary to expectation, that it is a perfect sphere. Of all natural objects, it is the most completely spherical. It was expected that, like Jupiter, it would be flattened, since it rotates rapidly. However, 50 years of measurement showed an equatorial measurement only 10 km greater than the polar measurement. Given that it is 1.4 million km across, this is less than negligible.
